Writing about Ethnicity: Fiction Writing Workshop

Is your ethnicity\/race\/culture a major part of your writing? Did you ever sit through a workshop and feel that nobody "gets" what you're trying to do? Consider joining a new fiction workshop, which will meet online for 6 weeks. We'll workshop short stories\/novel excerpts, discuss the genre of "ethnic literature," talk about publishing trends, and work on developing characters, plot, voice, and other aspects of craft. This is also open to writers who want to authentically portray characters of a cultural, ethnic, racial background other than their own. We'll talk about what to avoid and how to get it right. Participants will be responsible for various readings, as well as for submitting 3 fiction pieces and workshopping the work of their classmates. At the end of the course, participants have the option to send instructor a 75-page portfolio for an individual critique.
